Report: Ohio State QB Braxton Miller 'fully cleared' to throw
Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller has reportedly been fully cleared to throw with no limitations. According to 247Sports.com, Miller, who missed all of last season due to shoulder surgery, was fully cleared as of June 8.
That’s an encouraging step for the Buckeyes, who had been approaching things cautiously with Miller. A few weeks ago, OSU head coach Urban Meyer told reporters that Miller had been throwing “up to 35 yards.”
While Miller returning to full strength is an expected step in what should be the biggest storyline leading up to the season – the quarterback competition between Miller, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones – 247Sports’s Alex Gleitman is also reporting that the starting job is “Miller’s to lose.”
Miller, of course, won the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award in both 2012 and 2013, but was injured in the Orange Bowl against Clemson in January 2014. He then re-injured the shoulder last August, prompting the surgery that kept him out for the season.
In his absence, Barrett started every regular season game for the Buckeyes but broke his ankle in the season finale against Michigan. Jones then took the reins of the then 11-1 Buckeyes and miraculously guided them to postseason victories over Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game, Alabama in the national semifinal, and Oregon in the College Football Playoff title game.
With Miller and Barrett still on the mend, Jones was the team’s No. 1 quarterback throughout spring practice. But now that Miller and Barrett are healthy, the three will duke it out during fall camp.
